Ordering Invitation Envelopes
Be cautious when ordering the envelopes you want to be hand-lettered. Some papers do not take the ink well and will leave unattractive feathering or bleeding around the letters. Paper with a loose weave, rough surface, or an exceptionally slick surface doesn't work well. Sometimes I don't know how the envelope will react until I put pen to paper. You are more than welcome to send me a sample envelope, and we can discuss the quality of the results.
There are thousands of envelope types. The standard pricing listed above is for lighter envelopes with darker ink lettering. Dark envelopes, envelopes with dark liners, or very thick envelopes can sometimes pose problems for calligraphy. This is because a light table is used to project baselines, guidelines, and slant lines through the paper. The envelope types listed above may be unusable or require more time and result in a slight price increase. Either way, we can go through the sample process and review the outcome for your particular material.
*When ordering envelopes, please order 15 extra per 100 envelopes (or 15% extra), inner and outer, to account for human error (ink drops, smudges, etc.) or changes and additions to the order/guest list. Mistakes do happen, and I want to feel confident that each envelope I send back to you is my best work.
